The sights

Zakynthos is a beautiful place,so rich in history and culture and natural beauty, it is what makes it a perfect holiday destination in its own right. It caters for every age group and there are so many things to do on the Island you can never become bored. If you like adventuring through the mountain side or exploring under the sea or just relaxing on the many beaches Zakynthos provides, wlaking through the lazy villages or enjoying the cospolitian life style, you won't be disappointed by your holiday choice. The beautiful Island, Zakynthos, also known by its Italian name Zante, has become one of the leading holiday destinations throughout the world, once you have visited the island you will soon understand why. Many have returned year after year as her natural beuaty captivates the very heart of those who visit.. Once you leave the long sandy beaches behind and set off to explore the rest of the island, you'll discover plenty of forested wilderness and traditional rural villages where the hospitality is compared to none.  

Zakynthos is rich with sights and tourist attractions. The most famous sight and one that is definitely not to be missed is the shipwreck, at Navagio Cove - a picturesque beach in the north of Zante.

The Blue Caves and Keri Caves are a must as well, a true fact that there are only 3 Blue Caves in the whole of Greece, makes it a top destination.

Just making your way from village to village you will always discover something, and the locals will only be too pleased to show you around. 

The Wildlife Information Centre at Gerakas is a great place to visit, not just as it is located on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island but also because it gives visitors the chance to learn more about the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtles known as Carretta Carretta and perhaps even see one whilst swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lagana Bay.

When visiting the town of Zakynthos, the capital and cultural centre of the island, it is worth visiting many places of interest, first of all you can stroll around the famous square of Dionysios Solomos and visit places such as the Byzantine Museum and the Museum of Solomos and Kalvos which is located in Saint Marcos square. Let's not forget the famous church of the Patron Saint of the Island, Saint Dionysios and a visit to their museum is a must as well. Whilst in town you can make a visit up to Bochali for the panoramic views the village can offer and visit the Venetian Castle, where it is sure to take you back in history. 

One thing is for sure, there are lots of sights to appreciate on Zakynthos - so one visit to the island might not be enough!
